School Counseling degree programs

A master's in school counseling prepares graduates to support students' academic, career, and social-emotional development as licensed or certified school counselors in K-12 settings. This is a professional counseling degree, not teacher preparation, and it centers on counseling theory, human development, and direct work with students rather than classroom instruction. Students complete a supervised practicum and internship, commonly totaling 600 or more hours, and graduates go on to work in elementary, middle, and high schools helping students navigate coursework, college and career planning, and personal challenges.
